NSI WELCOMED PROF. KEN NOSAKA, EDITH COWAN UNIVERSITY, AUSTRALIA FOR ISN LECTURE SERIES AUGUST 06/2018

BUKIT JALIL, 16 August 2018 – ISN Lecture Series 06/2018 has been held with the presence of about 80 participants. This programme was attended by sports association, coaches, sports organizers, and ISN staff. Prof. Ken Nosaka, Director of Exercise and Sports Science Centre for Exercise and Sports Science Research, School of Medical and Health Sciences, Edith Cowan University, Australia was the speaker at this 6th ISN Lecture Series.

Professor Ken Nosaka worked in Japan for nearly 20 years before relocating to Edith Cowan University (ECU) in April 2004. He started at ECU as an Associate Professor, and was promoted to a full Professor in December 2009. Over the past 12 years, his main responsibilities in the School was to coordinate Postgraduate and Honours research programmes (2007-2014), leading the Center for Exercise and Sports Science Research (2007-2012), and supervise PhD and Masters by research students. He received the Vice Chancellor’s Award “Excellence in Research Supervision” in 2008, and the Vice Chancellor’s Award “Excellence in Research” in 2012. He has published more than 220 peer-reviewed journal articles throughout his career.

In this program, he has delivered a very insightful presentation entitled ‘How To Design A Study And Publish A Paper In A High-Quality Journal?’. In this presentation, Prof. Nosaka shared his experiences with people who “need” to publish papers, who want to improve the quality of papers, who are starting their research initiatives. In the process of designing a study and writing a paper, some technical skills are required such as sample size calculation, statistical analyses, figure making, reference formatting and English writing which were included in the lecture. As a supervisor of several PhD and Master’s students, Prof. Nosaka shared his experiences and challenges encountered in publishing journals. The goals of the lecture are to give advices on how to design a study and publish a paper as well as encouraging participants to start the process of journal write-up for publication in the future.

At the end of the program, Mr. Ahmad Zawawi bin Zakaria, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of National Sports Institute has presented a certificate of appreciation to Prof. Ken Nosaka and ended with a photography session with all the participants present at this lecture.
