Tunku Imran Challenged For OCM President’s Post

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — After 17 years, the post of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president held by Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Jaafar will be challenged at the upcoming 2015/2017 annual general meeting (AGM).

Tunku Imran will be challenged by the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) president Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor on Aug 22 at the OCM building.

Tunku Imran said OCM has always upheld democracy to ensure Malaysian sports will run smoothly and successfully.

“I am glad that so many people are interested in OCM and there are 30 (from 35) associations that have actually put in nominations. OCM has always been democratic, anyone can challenge anyone.

“If a person feels capable of leading or being in any of these position then it is up to the members to decide. I am not a man who talks about chances. The question is I stand, there is a record I have, if they want me, they want me, if they do not, so be it and move on. I am not counting chances or counting votes,” he told to reporters here Tuesday.

The nomination for OCM officer bearers would be conducted by an independent panel headed by the National Sports Institute (ISN) deputy chief executive officer Ramesh Chandar Nair.

The deputy president’s post will be a straight fight between incumbent Tan Sri Mohammad Noor Abdul Rahim and Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria.

As expected, Datuk Sieh Kok Chi has decided not to defend his secretary general’s position and instead will go against his former assistant T. Kumar for assistant secretary-general.

Datuk Low Beng Choo, who Kok Chi has given his blessings to replace him, will run for secretary-general against Datuk Danyal Balagopal.

Sieh held the position since 1992.
