‘Large Mandate’

KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria stressed that with him being chosen as the Deputy President of Olympic Council Malaysia (OCM) is a large mandate that demands him to work extra hard.

Norza, who is also the Deputy President of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) believes that bringing in new ideas is something expected from the affiliates of OCM for choosing him as the No. 2 person in charge.

The Treasurer of Football Association Malaysia (FAM) also believes that the combination of leadership line-up chosen for the 2015-2017 term will bring upon positive changes.

I am very touched with this victory. I can see that a few representatives have been given such a large mandate.

When this selection is done, I want all who has volunteered themselves, regardless of where (association) you are from, to work as one to think of ways to be the best (SEA Games) host in 2017.

Get down there and meet with the sports associations to take a look at the athletes’ preparation in continuing their training programmes after the recent (Singapore) SEA Games,” he said this after the OCM leadership election at Wisma OCM here yesterday.

The change in the deputy president post has seen Norza taking over the as the No. 2 person in charge from the previous holder, Tan Sri Mohamad Noor Abdul Rahim after winning with a 52 majority votes.

Norza, who also holds three other major post in local sports, as the Chairman of National Sports Institute (NSI), Treasurer of FAM and Deputy Chairman of BAM, when commenting on his commitment in OCM, he remains confident that he will be able to undertake the task well.

I believe I can provide sufficient time to carry out responsibility in other posts although today (yesterday) I am chosen as the deputy president of OCM.

Representatives present today are all mature in accessing the performance and ability of the candidates.

The representatives follow their preference and they have given me a chance to serve OCM based on my experience in the sports arena.

Other than the posts in the associations, I was also the chef-de-mission for the SEA Games in Singapore,” he said
