At each sports institute around the world such as the Australian Institute of Sports (AIS), the English Institute of Sports (EIS), and the Japan Institute of Sports Science (JISS) must be equipped with scientific laboratories that enable training, testing and research for high performance athletes. The National Sports Institute of Malaysia also has quality scientific laboratories and can be said to achieve international standards. One of the laboratories that have been operating is the human movement laboratory. This laboratory is set up to assist in assessing, measuring, and monitoring athlete / skill performance and injury elements made using high-tech, advanced and up-to-date equipment. This laboratory is fully utilized by Sports Biomechanics Centre staff/scientist that responsible for providing biomechanical sports services and conducting research activities.
The purpose of this laboratory is to measure and evaluate kinematic and kinetic parameters in the movement or skills performed by athletes or subjects. Among the equipment available in the human movement laboratory are the Qualisys motion analysis system, force platform, isokinetic machine, instrumented treadmill and myomotion system. Among the tests performed in this laboratory are 3D motion capture, muscle strength tests (isokinetic), ground reaction force, gait analysis, muscles contraction tests, stability tests and so on. These tests are carried out not only to improve the athlete’s performance but also to reduce the risk of injury.
