ISN Organises Master Trainer Certification Course for Talent ID (SportKompas Adaptation)

Empowering Future Facilitators in Grassroots Sports Talent Development

BANGI, 21 May 2025 — The Talent Management Division under the Research and Innovation Department of the National Sports Institute of Malaysia (ISN) successfully organised the Master Trainer Certification Course for Talent Identification (SportKompas Adaptation) from 19–21 May 2025 at Bangi Golf Resort Hotel.

The three-day course aimed to train a cohort of Master Trainers and facilitators who will serve as expert guides for MyTID (Talent Eagle) testers and stakeholders engaged in grassroots-level talent identification and development across Malaysia.

Spearheaded by international experts from Ghent University, Belgium, the course was led by Emeritus Prof. Dr. Johan Pion, Dr. Pieter Vansteenkiste, and Lode Goossens, all renowned figures in the field of scientific talent identification in sport.

A total of 12 participants, comprising representatives from ISN and public universities (IPTA), underwent comprehensive theoretical and practical sessions. The training covered scientific testing methodologies using adapted SportKompas protocols, focusing on both physical fitness and sport-specific inclination among children and youth.

Participants were also introduced to the development of a localised Talent ID (TID) digital platform and the strategic roles of each stakeholder. Belgium’s success story with SportKompas was shared as a model benchmark, offering valuable insights for ISN’s ongoing initiatives.

This effort is aligned with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) Action Plan and the National Sports Vision 2030 (VSN), particularly under the Talent Development Pillar. By building local expertise and enhancing grassroots outreach, ISN continues to drive a more structured, scientific, and inclusive approach to nurturing Malaysia’s next generation of sporting excellence.
