Kuala Lumpur, 17 September 2024 – The 3rd Research in High Performance Sports Colloquium 2024, held over the past three days, concluded today, leaving a lasting impact on Malaysia’s sports research landscape. With groundbreaking discussions, pioneering research presentations, and a unified spirit driving the nation’s high-performance sports sector forward, the event proved to be an incredible success.

The colloquium, co-organized by seven prestigious universities—University of Malaya (UM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)—showcased a rich platform of knowledge sharing. These institutions, alongside 13 generous sponsors, brought the event to life, spotlighting the importance of sports research and innovation in propelling Malaysia’s athletic ambitions.

Addressing the attendees at the closing ceremony, the event’s organizing committee highlighted the profound impact of collaboration, research, and knowledge exchange. “Together, we are not just expanding the boundaries of sports research but nurturing the future of high-performance sports in Malaysia,” said the event chair.

Pioneering Research and Innovation Showcased

A key highlight of the colloquium was the Sports Inno Challenge, which garnered a remarkable 30 proposals from Malaysia’s brightest minds in sports science. From these, 15 finalists were selected, showcasing their cutting-edge innovations aimed at enhancing athletic performance and improving sports technology. The level of creativity and passion was evident, providing a glimpse into the future of Malaysian sports excellence.

Participants were also treated to a wide array of upskilling opportunities. Seven specialized clinics were held, attended by 90 participants, offering hands-on learning experiences that focused on the practical application of the latest high-performance methodologies. These clinics, along with 16 immersive workshops that engaged over 109 participants, underscored the event’s commitment to fostering skills that directly contribute to Malaysia’s sporting success.

Bridging Academia and Industry

A major theme of the colloquium was the crucial connection between academia and the sports industry. Over 15 lecturers from various universities participated in discussions, enriching the event with their diverse perspectives. The presence of academia emphasized the important role educational institutions play in fueling research that supports the nation’s athletes.
